Our product uses the forms and conventions of real media products by using the same elements which make up a real films. We challenge the way that media products use different ways of bringing in an audience, through using the conventions that make up a thriller/supernatural film, such as suspense and tension.
We managed to establish a plot by first having to think of theme to run our opening title sequence on, this was thriller/supernatural then through this we thought of previous story lines that happened within these types of films, we got our inspiration from 'The Machinist' as the character in this film also suffers from insomnia, not many thriller films touch on these issues and we feel this would be a good topic to build upon as we felt it needs more awareness, and could be made into an interesting story line.
We have used many quick, snappy shots throughout the sequence and this includes a montage of these shots as people wanting to see a thriller/supernatural film will watch these shots and think, what is happening? I need to pay more attention to see what is in these shots. This is also a job of the quick paced editing we also done. We added the sound of a heartbeat to exaggerate the tension of this man and also the eeriness sound at the end to add a ghostly touch and wonder what this eeriness is going to lead to.
We also chose to turn the sequence black and white as it made it more ghostly, and just to show there really is no color in this mans life, and at the moment he feels he just has nothing to live for but just to battle through with the insomnia.
The tablets are a strong example of the Iconography, they make the audience question what disease he has or illness, and is the main point of what this man is going through in the sequence, he suffers form insomnia and through this the consequence is the woman haunting him.
